Standing Committee on Public Health

The Standing Committee on Public Health brings together medical students from all over the world to build skills, cooperate, explore and share ideas. Our projects focus on addressing all issues related to public health, including global health issues, health policies, health promotion and education.

Local committees at Belgian universities can organise their own SCOPH-related projects. Each project has their own goals, often adapted to the local needs, while keeping in mind the general idea of SCOPH.

You can find out which SCOPH projects are organised at your university on this website. If you would like to have some more information, you can find their contact information on each project page. If you want some more information about SCOPH on the national level, you can also find the contact information of the National Officer on Public Health (NPO) below.

Medical students of the IFMSA formed the Standing Committee on Students Health in 1952, driven by a strong will to take an active part in preventing and making policies concerning health problems. During the following years, the wide variety of activities led to the change of SCOSH to the Standing Committee on Health in 1963. Eventually in 1983, the name of the Committee changed once more to Standing Committee on Public Health.

In the past decades, SCOPHeroes have been implementing, maintaining and improving a wide variety of community based projects on a local, national and international level. Through these activities we are approaching our vision of a healthy society and we are developing our own potential of being a complete and skillful health professional.
