From Mexico to Hasselt, Belgium

I truly believe I was meant to be here from the very beginning. Hasselt wasn’t my first choice when I was selecting LCs and projects, but now I know it was the best decision I could have made. When choosing LCs, we are often drawn to the big cities for their tourist appeal. But when it comes to actually living abroad, the real treasure is a peaceful city—one where people are always willing to help, where you can walk alone and feel safe, and where you can find true peace of mind.

The LC in Hasselt has been incredible. They always look out for you and genuinely do their best to give you the most enriching experience. Even if it takes their time, money, or effort, they are always ready to help in any way they can.

Getting around is easy once you get used to it. Apps like De Lijn make moving within the

city simple, and SNCB is perfect for exploring the rest of the country.

Thanks to the National Social Plan, I was able to visit many cities, meet other LCs, and experience so much more of Belgium than I ever expected.

But the best part of my exchange has been the people I met. Since Hasselt is a small city, we were constantly seeing each other throughout the week. We hung out almost every day, made plans together, and supported one another through the entire journey. Over time, they became more than just friends—they became family. I know this bond wouldn’t have been the same if I had gone anywhere else.

Here, I found friends, I found family, and I found a second home that I will always treasure in my heart.

So, if anyone is unsure about where to go, I can say it with certainty: Hasselt is the perfect choice.
