International opportunities

Important opportunities

Underneath you can find an explanation about the regular & important opportunities. Keep in mind that they are a lot of other possibilities, but these are the ones you will come across the most.

Each year, BeMSA is present at these 2 international meetings: the March Meeting and the August Meeting. These are events organized by the 'International Federation of International Students' Associations' (IFMSA), of which BeMSA is a member. During the March Meeting & August Meeting, people from all over the world gather in these events. These meetings are similar to our national meetings (NGA), but they are more internationally oriented. Sessions are given in our 6 standing committees, contracts are made for our exchanges, decisions about the priorities of the IFMSA are being made and much more! Besides, it is a way to get to know medical students from around the world better and connect with each other.

EuRegMe is very similar to the 2 General Assemblies. The only difference is that only members of the European Region participate. BeMSA also participates in this event every year!

A Sub-Regional Training or SRT is a capacity building event aimed at delivering trainings sessions and workshops. It contains one or more workshops to help build the skills of the participants, and train the participants to give trainings themselves in the future. These usually focus on a specific topic (you can find the topics on the IFMSA website), or a specific Standing Committee. They last around 4 days and are organised throughout the whole world. So there is a SRT waiting for you wherever you want to go!

Our members also get the opportunity to participate in conferences or meetings of other organisations: the WHO, WCA, CIRSE, STI & HIV World Congress, EUVECA, ...

There are countless of different events which you, as a student, can join. Help bring the student voice to these occasions!

Both BeMSA and the IFMSA organizes small working groups (SWGs). SWGs provide the opportunity for students to come together, share ideas, and collaborate on a specific topic: a policy document, a certain issue, ... Usually the work is done online.

Now you might have heard about our clinical and research exchanges, and if you haven't, be sure to check them out! However these are not the only exchanges which you can join. Our other Standing Committees also have them: although they might look a bit different.

  • PHEx (Public Health Exchange): this is a collaboration between SCOPE and SCOPH. Meaning this is a SCOPE exchange (so 1 month, in the clinical field, abroad, ...), but within a public health sector!

  • GAP (Global Action Project): this is a collaboration between SCORE and SCOPH. Meaning this is a SCORE exchange (so 1 month, research, abroad, ...), but within a public health sector! Usually this concerns around endemic diseases of the country. You will also do some field work!

  • SCORA X-Change: this is an unilateral exchange focused on sexual health & reproductive rights. This lasts about 3 weeks and you do it in group with people from all over the world. It could focus around sexuality, maternal health, reproductive health, ... The options are many, each year there are different countries that organize them.

  • GoSCORP: this is a one-way exchange program, centered on solving urgent human rights issues in a certain region. These usually last about 2 weeks and are also organised by different countries each year. The topics changes annually but the goal stays the same: awareness, dialogue and change! Possible subjects are: migration, access to health, environmental crisis, equality, ...
