SCOPH Kulak
Standing Committee on Public Health
Who are we?
SCOPH's mission is to address specific health issues in our society through events for young and old, yourself and those around you.
Heart For Life is an event focused on the prevention and early detection of cardiovascular diseases. With this initiative we want to make people aware of their cardiovascular risk by measuring their blood pressure and by asking questions about their lifestyle.
In Belgium, approximately 1 in 3 deaths is caused by cardiovascular diseases, and in many cases it's only detected when it's already too late. That's why we strive to educate people about the risks and complications of unhealthy habits. We want to encourage everybody to have a positive and healthy lifestyle.
With Boedserieus, we aim to encourage everyone to donate blood and help people in need. In collaboration with Rode Kruis, everybody is invited to donate blood or plasma. It's a small effort that can make a huge difference!
Every day, countless patients rely on blood transfusions. Thanks to blood or plasma donations, these patients can recover from their injuries, overcome illness or even have their live saved. That's why we are dedicated to encourage people to donate by promoting these events and even rewarding participants with goodie bags.
With Teddy Bear Hospital we want to remove the fear of doctors from young children. During the event, children bring their own teddy bear and become a real teddy bear doctor for the day! Through this playful and interactive experience, we helpt them become comfortable with medical environments and healthcare proffesionals.. For several years now, we have also been organizing it at the KU Leuven campus in Bruges!

One of the most well-known events is undoubtedly Kulak 24 Hours Against Cancer. For 24 hours, money is raised for the Leuven Cancer Institute to support cancer research! This is made possible through various activities such as the 6-Hour Run, Professors Against Cancer, and 'Kelder tegen Kanker'! Last year's edition raised an impressive €40.000 and this year we're aiming even higher..
In Belgium, cancer remains one of the leading causes of death. That's why we find it crucial to support research and help the fight against this devastating disease.
